Have Hope

I was recently reminded of the story of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), who had an amazing journey since His birth.  When he was born, his mother was asked by Allah (SwT) to place him in a wooden chest in the middle of the river so he is not caught by the army of the Pharaoh who decided to do away with all baby boys at the time.  Can you imagine a mother placing her own baby in the middle of a river? It was Allah (SwT) who reaffirmed her heart and promised that He would return Musa to her and make him among the messengers.  This is the first glimmer of hope that we see in this story.  And truly even though Musa ended up in the house of the Pharaoh after being picked up from the river by the wife of the Pharaoh and adopted, Allah did not allow him to nurse from any other woman, such that he was returned to his mother so she can nurse him and be overcome with joy once again.  This is the second lesson in hope.
And there are more when we see that when Musa accidentally killed one of the pharaoh’s guards who was mistreating a slave at the time, he ran away and after being a Prince in the house of the Pharaoh, he was nobody and had nothing.  That was until he met two women standing near a well wanting to give water to their sheep but were unable to because of too many men.  So he helped them, and immediately after went to sit under the shade of a tree and made the duaa: “Oh Allah, I am in need of whatever good you can give me”.  And this is subhana’Allah where we see a powerful lesson in hope.  When the women went back to their old father and said a man helped them , the father asked one of his daughters to call back this man so he may thank him.  The Quran describes how the daughter walked with shyness to invite Musa so her father can thank him and upon his arrival, the daughter told her father to hire this man for the best man he can hire is the strong trustworthy one.  Upon her request, the father actually offered Musa one of his daughters in marriage and asked Musa to work for him for eight years and if he wants to complete ten then that is his choice and that in sha Allah, he will find him among the righteous.

Subhana’Allah, this was truly a powerful message in hope because Musa went from homeless, jobless, single and no family, to married, with a job secured for years, in a home, with a good family.   We can take away from this the importance of not giving up in times of difficulty and remembering that all we have to do is ask.  He asked Allah that whatever good he can grant him, he is need of, so Allah (swt) in His Infinite Generosity and Mercy took care of everything for him.

And similarly, Allah can and will take care of everything for us.  Let us put our trust in Allah because there is no one else who can truly help us except Him or except with His permission.  In fact, this precisely relates to the first two attributes of Allah (SwT) – Arrahman (The Entirely Merciful), Arraheem (The One Who Has plenty of Mercy, especially for the believers).  And we know that these are the attributes that Allah begins each Surah with in the Quran, with the exception of one Surah. And we also know that Allah (SwT) Has said that His Mercy supersedes His Wrath.  So let us remember in sha Allah, that we are dealing with The Most Merciful.  Remember every breath is a mercy, every step is a mercy, every ounce of health, wealth, happiness is a mercy and yes even trials and tribulations can be a form of mercy for the believer because they can either wipe out any sins or raise their levels in heaven.  Let us remember to thank Allah for His Infinite blessings upon us.
Do you have any examples of when you were feeling in trouble and Allah made a way out for you and took care of everything for you?  Do you have examples of the demonstration of Allah’s attributes Arrahman Arraheem in your life?
