The Ultimate Reality
When any kind of turbulence or tribulation strikes in our lives, we must remember that it does not have to break us or stop us from pursuing our path to Allah (Swt). In fact, we can by the will of Allah (Swt), use it to confirm and affirm our convictions and to increase our determination, trust in Allah (Swt) and our good deeds in this world that will in sha Allah lead to a place of ultimate bliss and happiness.
The prophet peace be upon him has told us that “If Allah loves a servant, He shall test him” so imagine that even in the midst of the tribulation you are facing, the King of the Worlds, the One Who Holds the Dominion of the Heavens and the Earth, the All Merciful, the All Compassionate, is there with you, loving you and guiding you, every step of the way. The key is will you turn to Him? Will you turn to Him to allow you to transform that tribulation or difficulty into a source of energy and motivation to step into something bigger and better in sha Allah?
Indeed, many people who have accomplished great things in this life will say that their deepest moments of suffering turned into their greatest moments of transformation and ability to make a positive difference in this world. We all know this life is imperfect and that challenges, obstacles, and tribulations are a fact of life that we must face. So it’s not a matter of whether we will overcome the challenge or not, because to continue living, we must – it’s a matter of how we will overcome this challenge. Will it break something inside of us that leaves us suffering for a lifetime, or will it make us stronger, wiser, and more determined to use that struggle in a way that alleviates the struggles of others, and with that, alleviates our struggles too? Will we overcome it with patience and prayer as Allah (Swt) tells us in the Quran, remembering that sometimes the greatest person we need to have patience with is ourselves?
Another challenge is, we don’t always know the stories of these great people. We think they were born successful or had all the privileges and the ‘right circumstances’ in life, not being fully aware of the multiple challenges and hardships they encountered that paved their way to making a great difference in the world, by the grace of Allah (Swt). On the other hand, we may believe that once we accomplish these great things, this is where we will find ultimate peace or serenity when we know that when when Omar ibn Al Khattab was asked by his son, when do we find rest, he replied: “When we place our first foot in jannah…”.
So my message to you dear sister, is that yes we will certainly have stations for peace and rest in this world, we will have moments of happiness, and we certainly ask Allah as He tells us to in the Quran: “Oh Allah give us goodness in this world, and give us goodness in the hereafter and protect us from the hellfire”. We strive and we work to make this world a better place and find happiness and we don’t let trials and tribulations break us but embrace them with full trust in Allah (Swt)’s wisdom and plan for us, knowing that after we have put forth our best effort in this world to do all we can with ihsan (excellence) for the sake of Allah, our ultimate place of rest and happiness is in jannah in sha Allah.
This is my latest poem with my prayers that it gives comfort specifically to those who are dealing with the tribulation of death:
We live
We love
We laugh
We work and we race
until we finally face
The ultimate reality but not always with grace
Death
It is the only guarantee
Yet many fail to see
The frailty of this world and its imperfection
The sickness and the sadness that will lead some to regression
Regressing from remembering the mercy of Allah
Regressing from remembering the promise of Allah
To those who believe and do righteousness
Death
Is not the end
But only the start of beginning to mend
The trials and tribulations and any strife
The start in sha Allah of a better life
In a jannah that spans the heavens and the earth
In a jannah where it’s as if the believer has a new birth
Where there is no pain, sickness and sadness
But ultimate relief, health and happiness.
